Prof. (Dr.) Vijender Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam was the Registrar of NALSAR, University of Law, Hyderabad before he was invited to join this University. An astute academician and researcher, he has numerous research articles and books to his credit. He has published research articles in reputed law journals on Hindu Law and has contributed several book reviews and papers in books. He has also authored several books amongst which “Hindu Law of Adoption 2004” and “Law Relating to Domestic Violence 2007”, his Revised Editions of “Family Law in India” of Professor G.C.V. Subba Rao, (8th edition, 2004, 9th edition 2007 and 10th edition 2011) and “Hindu Law and Usage” by John D. Mayne (16th edition, 2009 and 1st rep. 2010 and 17th edition 2014), and his co-edited book titled “Global Perspectives in Consumer Law, 1st edition 2011” are especially noteworthy. He also has five years of experience at the Bar prior to teaching. He has worked on several projects including a project commissioned by the National Commission for Women, on “Coparcenary Rights of Women in Andhra Pradesh”; “A Study of Law and Nanotechnology: Exploring the Dimensions for Tackling the Nanotechnology Revolution with Special Relevance to Human Rights and Environment” funded by the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, New Delhi; he also worked on a two-year Collaborative Research Project tilted “Non Resident Indians (NRI) Marriages: Need for a New Legal Regime” for which grant was supported by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, New Delhi. Prof. (Dr.) Kumar has participated and presented papers in several National and International Conferences. He has also participated in the Law Teachers Programme on “Law Teaching and Legal Research Skills” at Cardiff Law School, (UK) in 2004. Prof. Kumar has been awarded ‘Academic Staff Commonwealth Fellowship 2009-2010′ for six months and ‘Visiting Professor’ at King‘s College London, UK for one year.
He is visiting faculty at National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT), Nagpur. Prof. Kumar was co-opted Member of Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) – 2009 by the Core Committee of CLAT and he has organized 3rd All India Entrance Test of National Law University, Delhi in May 2010 as Chairman, Entrance Test Committee. For many years now, he has been a member of NALSAR Academic Council, Executive Council, and General Council. As the Registrar of NALSAR, he used his administrative skills to promote the all-round growth of the University.
