Applications are invited through Google Form for admission to Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) Programme at NLUO.

About NLUO

National Law University Odisha, Cuttack was established by Act-IV of 2008 by the Odisha State Legislature. It offers five years integrated programme of B.A. LL.B (Honours), B.B.A LL.B (Honours), B.A. (Specialisation), LL.M and Ph.D. programmes. It has a campus of 50 acres bound by the scenic beauty of the river Mahanadi in the South and Kathajodi in the North. The Chancellor of the University is the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court and the Visitor of the University is the Chief Justice of India or a Judge of the Supreme Court nominated by the Chief Justice of India.

NLUO encourages quality research and scholarship in contemporary areas in both theoretical and practical research with a holistic prospective.

Admission Procedure:

  1. The admission shall be through two stages selection process.
  2. Eligible candidates may apply in the Full Time category by using the Google Form link given in the University website after payment of the prescribed application fees.
  3. Submitted application forms will be screened, and candidates found eligible will be intimated regarding the future procedures and schedule.
  4. Along with the application the candidate shall submit (a) Synopsis with an outline of the scheme of research intended for the thesis and chapter wise synopsis of the proposed work in not more than 2000 words; (b) A certificate from the institution concerned testifying leave from service for 28 months, wherever required; (c) a self-attested photocopy of LL.M., M.Phil., M.A., M.Sc., M.Com., M.B.A. / equivalent Degrees whichever is applicable, along with mark sheet.
  5. If the Doctoral Committee finds a candidate suitable for pursuing Ph.D. Degree Programme, the candidate shall be allowed to register for the Ph.D. program on payment of prescribed fee.
  6. NLUO Ph.D. course work and Ph.D. thesis shall be in English language only.
  7. In case a research scholar of another University relocates and has obtained fresh admission in NLUO, the research done by such candidate in the previous institution if approved by the concerned committee at the time of presentation of the Research Proposal can be transferred and research on the same topic can be continued in NLUO provided due acknowledgment shall be given to the earlier guide.

Presentation of the Research Proposal:

The presentation must be about the tentative research proposal of the candidate. It must contain the following elements;

  1. Statement of Problem
  2. Relevance of Research
  3. Literature Survey
  4. Research Questions
  5. Research Hypothesis
  6. Research Methodology
  7. Tentative Chapterization

The final selection of the candidates for the Ph.D. degree programme shall only be made on the basis of the presentation.
