Motor Accident Claims Tribunal Awards Rs 1.04crore As Compensation To Man Disabled In Road Accident.

The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has awarded a compensation of Rs 1.04 crore to a 38-year-old man who became disabled following a road accident in 2015.
MACT member KD Vadane in his recent order awarded the compensation to the claimant, Kirron Patil, a resident of Bhiwandi.
Vadane ordered the two respondents owner of the container Roshan Freight Carriers and the insurer The New India Assurance Co Limited — to jointly and severally make the payment along with 8 per cent interest from the date of filing of the claim that is December 2015.
The owner of the container, involved in the accident, did not appear before MACT and hence the case was decided ex-parte against him.
As per the plea, on September 2, 2015 when Patil was going to Bhiwandi from Thane, the container rammed into his motorcycle, and he was seriously hurt in the accident.
Patil claimed in the plea that he had to undergo several surgeries and spent around Rs 40 lakh. He said he used to earn just over Rs 30,000 per month and sought a compensation of Rs 1.55 crore.
Ajay Kanbur, who treated the applicant, told MACT that there were serious injuries to Patil’s left and right leg due to which his left leg had to be amputated below the knee.
He also said due to serious urological and orthopaedic injuries, physical and working capacity of the applicant was affected, and he could not even stand, walk and travel independently.
