DPIIT IPR Chair at Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai invites applications for admission to the full-time Ph.D. Programme in Intellectual Property Law.
ELIGIBILITY
- UGC- NET in Law
- Master’s degree in law with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade ‘B’ on the UGC 7- point scale.
- A relaxation of 5% in eligibility criteria will be granted to candidates from SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layer)/Differently Abled persons.
- Candidates appearing in the final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply. (However, before completing the admission procedure, the original mark sheet of the qualifying examination must be produced to show that the candidate fulfills the eligibility criteria.)
Note: Preference will be given to candidates having domain knowledge and/or publications in IPR. No of Seats: 01 (One)
ENROLMENT DETAILS
- Enrolment for the Ph.D. Degree shall ordinarily be full-time. The candidate shall put in a minimum of three years of residence of which at least 18 months shall be in the university. There shall thus be provision for the candidate to earn credits for research work done outside the university.
- Six years shall be the maximum period in which a full-time candidate shall complete the research work and submit it for evaluation.
STIPEND
- NET Qualified with JRF: ₹ 25,000/- pm
- NET Qualified without JRF: ₹ 16,000/- pm + HRA as per norms
- Stipend is being given by the Department for the Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT) under their Scheme for Pedagogy and Research in IPRs for Holistic Education and Academia (SPRIHA).
PROCEDURE OF ADMISSION

- The prescribed qualifications and experience are minimum and the mere fact that a candidate possesses the same will not entitle him/her to be called for an interview. The University reserves the right to restrict the candidates to be called for offline interview to a reasonable number on the basis of qualifications and experience higher than the minimum prescribed; or by any other condition that it may deem fit. Those who possess higher qualifications will be given preference in short- listing the candidates. The University may constitute a Screening Committee to scrutinize the applications and short-list the candidates. Call letters for the interview will be sent only to the short-listed candidates and no correspondence will be made with applicants who are not short-listed. The list shall be published in the University website.
- The University will have the right to relax any qualifications, experience, etc.
- Canvassing in any form on behalf of any candidate will disqualify such a candidate.
- The Selection Committee shall decide the candidate evaluating the performance of the candidates in the interview/ presentation of the Research Proposal.
- University reserves the right not to fill any of the vacancies advertised if the circumstances so warrant.
- University will not be responsible for any technical problems in submission.
- In case of any disputes/suits or legal proceedings against the University, the Jurisdiction shall be restricted to the Courts in Mumbai only.
- The admission will be through a proposal presentation/ interview. The interview will be held at the University’s campus on 30th April 2023.
