About the Centre

The Centre for Law and Economics (CLE) was established under the aegis of Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh: with the goal of promoting study in the co-joined disciplines of Law and Economics, as well as understanding the interdependent relationship between the state of the economy and the effect that it has on the country’s economic laws.

The Centre aims at promoting awareness and research in the field of Law and Economics.

About The Competition

One of the most daring multidisciplinary topics is law and economics, which deals with the use of macro and micro economic theories in legal frameworks expanding their assistance in performance evaluation and offering answers to prevalent issues.

Both domains are intrinsically tied to one another and include a wide range of topics, including property, contracts, torts, criminal law and process, administrative law, constitutional law, environmental law, family law, and many more.

The benefit of studying these topics concurrently allows for evaluation of legal regulations and their economic viability, as well as analysis of the consequences of laws passed, on the public owing them to explore the new dimension of the research process, this competition will inspire the students to improve their research abilities.

Eligibility Criteria

Any student pursuing under-graduate degree from a reputed school/college/university is eligible to participate in the Competition.

Submissions are to be made in the form of MS Word (2003 or 2007 or 2010 or 2013).

  • All submissions are to be made via google form.
  • Note: write your name and co-author’s name as the file name.
  • Manuscript word limit: 4000-6000 (excluding footnotes and references
  • Submission date: on or before 30th July, 2023.
  • Font: Times New Roman.
  • Font size: 12. Line spacing: 1.5. All text should be justified, with a margin spacing of 1” on all sides.
  • Headings and Sub-headings must be appropriately numbered.
  • Tables should be typed and included as a part of the manuscript. They should not be submitted as graphic elements.
  • Mathematical expressions, figures and charts should be presented in a way that will be easily printable.
  • Tables and diagrams should be numbered consecutively and included in the text. Source must be mentioned below the table.
  • Footnoting style to be followed: The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (2015, 20th ed.). Contributors are requested to strictly follow the citation style.
  • Your paper should be error free: grammar, spellings, punctuation etc.
  • Plagiarism: Any submission that is found to be plagiarized beyond 15% shall be disqualified from the competition.
  • Co-Authorship:
    • Co-authorship, up to two people, is allowed.
    • Any previously published entry would not be permitted.
    • Copyright of the submission shall remain with CLE.
    • In case of any conflicts, CLE shall be the final authority on the guidelines.
    • In case a participant is submitting an assignment/project, which has been submitted to their university’s Turnitin repository, CLE requires the participants to submit the associated Turnitin report via email indicating that the plagiarism percent is less than 15%.

The Generalised theme for this competition is Evolving Dimension for Law & Economics. The sub-themes for the Essay Writing Competition are as follows-

  • Economic and Legal impact of Work from Home (WFH) policy.
  • Economics and laws relating to Artificial Intelligence.
  • Economics of Intellectual Property Rights.
  • Law and Economics of Tribal Diaspora Development.
  • Economics of gender related laws in India.

All sub-themes are illustrative.

Winners shall be awarded the following prize money:

  • First Prize: Rs. 21,000/
  • Second Prize: Rs. 15,000/
  • Third Prize: Rs. 10,000/
