ABOUT Chanakya National Law University

Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) was established by the Bihar Act No. 24 of 2006 under the patronage of Government of Bihar. The University is accredited by NAAC and is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and registered with the Bar Council of India (BCI).The teaching pedagogy prioritizes in classroom lectures, presentations as well as in augmenting the all-round development of students. The students of this institution have proved their prowess by bringing several laurels to its pride in competitions ranging from Moot Courts to debates and sports events. Eleven batches of CNLU have passed and have been placed in leading law firms, corporate houses, banks and several have been chosen by foreign universities for pursuing masters.

Moot Court Competitions are highlight of every law curriculum. The exercise of mooting teaches students skills that are of utmost importance for solving complex legal problems. The Moot Court Committee of Chanakya National Law University is a student led body that works hand in hand with the administration for organizing various activities. Annually, the Committee organizes three competition – Freshers Moot for novice students, General Intra for the allotment of National Moots and Special Intra for the allotment of International Moots. In the past, committee was involved in the organization of various National and International Moot Court Competitions.

About the Moot

With an objective to raise the standards of Clinical Legal Education in India, Chanakya National Law University, Patna (CNLU) is delighted to announce the first edition of NHRC- CNLU National Moot Court Competition, 2023 in association with the National Human Rights Commission of India (NHRC). In order to provide the necessary free space to interpret and analyze legal provisions in the context of a given legal regime, while trying to solve a practical problem, this event has been devised with the aim to nurture and hone amongst law students, a better understanding and concern for the protection and promotion of Human Rights, while giving them an opportunity to deliberate before experts in the field, thus rigorously testing the legal acumen, research, and oratory skills of the participating teams.

The Competition shall be organized in physical mode. Inaugural Ceremony and Researcher’s Test are scheduled to be held on 13th October, 2023. Preliminary Round- 1, Preliminary Round-2 and Quarter Rounds are scheduled to be held on 14th October, 2023. Semi-Finals and Final Rounds are scheduled to be held on 15th October, 2023.

Eligibility: All students enrolled in a three (3) year LL.B. programme or a five (5) year integrated law programme shall be eligible to participate in the Competition. However, only two teams per institution shall be eligible to participate. In the event of multiple registrations from the same College/University/Law School, the team which submits a letter by the Head / Dean of the Institution / Moot Court Committee, authorizing them to participate on behalf of the College or Law School shall be eligible to register. Students enrolled in post-graduate or diploma courses are not eligible to participate.

Runner up – Rs. 20,000/-

Best student advocate -Rs. 10,000/-

Best memorial respondent -Rs. 10,000/-

Best memorial applicant – Rs. 10,000/-

Best researcher – Rs. 10,000/-
