Centurion University of Technology and Management, Bhubaneswar, Odisha Appoint Dr. Pallab Das as Founder Dean

Dr. Pallab Das took over as the Founding Dean and Associate Professor of the School of law, Centurion University of Technology and Management, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Centurion University of Technology and Management is the latest private university in Bhubaneswar, Odisha to establish a new School of Law. Amongst other schools, the law school will be the 13th School in the University which is spread across 6 constituent campuses in Odisha and one more campus in Vijayanagaram, Andhra Pradesh. With a mission to provide quality education and sustainable livelihoods, the university boasts to be MSME accredited Skilled University in Odisha by the Govt. of India.  The School of Law is started with a mission to provide equal education to every student, especially to reach out to those staying in the rural parts of the state. The journey of the university started in 1997 with the first campus being established in Paralakhemundi in Odisha and subsequently getting the university status in the year 2010 under the name CUTM.

The School of Law is focused to provide students with the following courses:

  1. LLB 5 years integrated law degree course
  2. LLB 5 years integrated law degree course
  3. LLM in Maritime Law
  4. LLM in Commercial Law
  5. Doctors of Philosophy, Ph.D. in Law.

Dr. Das was a former faculty at NLU Odisha and Bennett University, The Times of India Group. Dr. Pallab Das completed his LLM from Swansea University, United Kingdom on an International Excellence Scholarship, 2015 with a specialization in International Commercial and Maritime Law and his BSL.LLB from ILS Law College, Pune and was ranked 8th in Pune University. He got selected on scholarship and completed the Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration from the Austrian Arbitration Academy, sommerhochshule, Vienna in 2018. He has completed his PhD in Maritime Arbitration from NLUO.

He has written many articles and also assisted in writing a book “Justice for Women: Legal Compendium” (2015), Odisha State Commission for Women, Government of Odisha, India. His book “Maritime Arbitration: Judicial Trends and Practices” is the only book in India dealing with such a niche area of law and has received excellent reviews. He is also the editor of the book on maritime law i.e. “Through the lens of Maritime Law: A world view”(EBC Publication) (1st edn. 2020) and the book titled “Maritime Jurisdiction and Admiralty law in India”(Universal Publication). His areas of interest include, International Maritime Law, International Commercial and Investment Arbitration, Criminal Law, Legal Methods, Evidence Law, and the Transfer of Property Act. Before joining NLUO, he practiced in the High court of Orissa and worked as a Civil Judge at Odisha Judicial Services (Ranked 5th in 2013). He is a qualified Westlaw UK researcher. Dr. Pallab is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London and an Associate member of the Asian Institute of Alternate Dispute Resolution, Malaysia. He is the Honorary Founder of Lawmentoring and Mmerak, India’s first mentoring programme for law students across India. He is frequently called for talks on arbitration and maritime laws by several law colleges in India and abroad and has been vehemently advocating for Mental Health issues and the immediate need to address the problem. Dr. Das, is an avid reader and an academic writer.  He has been awarded ‘Elite Under 35’ by Indian Law Conclave in 2020 for his contribution to the field of law. He was recently awarded ‘Excellence in Academic: Maritime Legal’ by GMU_Marex on October 20, 2022.
