ABOUT THE PROJECT:

The present study is about wrongful prosecution and its redressal. Of late, there is a burgeoning concern about instances where those who are wrongfully prosecuted and are later found to be innocent. A host of social, psychological, physical and financial consequences follow the wrongful implication of a person in such cases. Both the nature and the extent of the problem of wrongful prosecution remains an understudied enigma in our country. There is a dearth of studies on the causes of wrongful prosecution as well as the sufferings of the victims and in particular the effect of the secondary victimisation upon their lives and that of their families. The project seeks to identify the contours of wrongful prosecution in India as well as types and mannerisms of wrongs, injuries, losses and injustice to victims of wrongful prosecution. The project shall recommend workable and practicable mechanisms for compensation and restitution as well as comprehensive statutory and police frameworks to address the issue.

ABOUT THE CENTRE:

A Centre for Criminology, Criminal Justice and Victimology (CCV) is being established at RGNUL with the aim to contribute towards the fundamental and applied research and action in the field of Criminology, Criminal Law, Criminal Justice, Victim Justice, and Victimology. The Centre is implementing the Project.

POSITION:

The Centre is looking to engage one full-time Researcher for this project, who has skills and experience of working on challenging issues and is also ready to carry out extensive fieldwork in this regard.

DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT:

The duration of the assignment shall be till the completion of the project. It shall be a part-time assignment. The modalities of the work shall be decided by the Project Director.
