Call for Papers – JDS-Volume-I, 2023

HPNLU Journal for Disability Studies (JDS) is lunching the maiden issue of its annual publication. HPNLU Journal for Disability Studies (JDS) Vol. I. In this regard, submissions, under different categories, are invited from interested faculty members, research scholars, judges, professionals, and students. The last date for submission of contribution is October 30, 2023. Selection of entries shall be based on double blind peer review. Queries about submission of papers and related matters may be directed to [email protected].

Submission shall be accepted only through email, and the same need to be captioned as “Submission to HPNLU Journal for Disability Studies<Title of Contribution>”.

About The Journal

HPNLU Journal for Disability Studies (JDS) is an annual double-blind peer- reviewed Journal published by Centre for Studies Related to Persons with Disabilities, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla. This is one of the flagship journals of Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla. It has been started with the objective of becoming a formidable instrument in taking the standard of legal and multidisciplinary research in country up by several notches. It is an annual faculty edited journal focusing on inter- disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approaches towards law and disability writing. The Journal aims to publish articles, case comments, book reviews on all aspects of disability studies and related issues. Here the special emphasis is placed on contemporary challenges and policies of disability jurisprudence. Further, believing in the fact that JDS is only one of its kind among law universities in the country, therefore it aims at representing the contemporary legal discourse related to disability jurisprudence in the country and abroad. The Journal aims at giving the opportunity to legal academia, research scholars, students, advocates, members of non- governmental organizations and activists working in the area of disability studies.

At CSD, we firmly believe in the fact of active participation of persons with disabilities in building the disability-inclusivity discourse. As persons with disabilities have first-hand experience, whereby they can immensely contribute in the field of disability studies. Therefore we encourage people with disabilities to contribute for the journal. This way Journal will serve as the platform for innovative thought sharing and will aim at contributing in dynamic growth of law-disability literature. Thus journal run with the objective to serve as an important academic forum for disability discourse and scholarship. The JDS

will promote reflective thinking by providing a socially relevant knowledge. This journal is an earnest attempt to provide an effective research tool by sparking scholastic conversation among a diverse group of researchers, academicians, judges, jurists, practitioners, students, activists, scholars and prominent thinkers. The journal will publish scholarly articles, comments on judgments, short notes, legislative analysis and solicit reviews of latest books from renowned connoisseurs of disability studies. All submissions will undergo a rigorous editorial process.

Categories of Submission

Contribution may be made in the form of Research Papers / Article, Notes & Comments and Book Review. The contribution, in given category, should be comprehensive and in-depth analysis of theoretical and contemporary issues related to Disability Studies including legal discourse at national and international level.

The following word limits should be observed:

  • ARTICLES (6000-10000 words)
  • ESSAYS AND COMMENTS (4000-6000 words)
  • Book Review (3000-4000 words) (Contribution under this Category is required to be made along with the new hard or e-copy of the Book).

Submission Guidelines

  1. Theme: There is no specific or particular theme(s) or topic(s) for the Volume. All submissions, relating to Disability studies and its related fields or interrelation of disability with other disciplines are invited.
  2. Submission in electronic form: All contributions have to be submitted in electronic form. The manuscript should be typed in MS Office double spaced, with a left margin of one and half inches, and sent to: [email protected].
  3. Abstract: Abstract of the paper in 250-300 words should be sent along with the electronic submissions.
  4. Covering Letter:Author(s)must send a covering letter mentioning the title of the paper, name, designation, and details of the author(s) as well as institutional affiliation. The author(s) are compulsorily required to make a solemn declaration about the originality of the manuscript and that the same has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
  5. Communication of Acceptance: The decision on the acceptance of the paper for publication will be that of the Editorial Board, which shall be final. The communication shall be made electronically. The Editorial Board reserves the right of publication and a manuscript maybe rejected from publication in the final stage(s).

STYLE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Citation: For citation and references, the HPNLU Citation Style or the Bluebook, A Uniform System of Citation (20th Edn.), should be strictly followed. The HPNLU Citation-Style is available https://www.hpnlu.ac.in/PDF/252e010c-6417-45fc-a15d- 75fded9c3905.pdf. It can also be used for the paper in case of any confusion vis-a-vis format and footnoting.
  2. Lengthy Quotations discouraged: Author(s) should avoid long quotations and keep it at minimum wherever necessary with full and proper acknowledgement.
  3. Footnotes: Lengthy and multi-paragraphed footnotes are discouraged. The citations must mention the page(s) of the source and in cases where Court Judgments are referred to, the footnote should also mention the paragraph of the judgment in addition to the page number of the Reporter.
  4. Websites: Only authoritative and authentic websites may be cited. References to internet sources, such as Wikipedia, blogs, commercial websites, etc., are not acceptable.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

The authors must comply with the following terms and conditions:

  1. The manuscripts should be well researched/documented following a uniform style of citation for footnotes given above. 
  2. The manuscripts should be the original work of the contributor and not a compilation of pre-existing works on the subject. It should not amount to the violation of others’ copyright. The contributor has to give a declaration as to originality of the work.
  3. The copyright in all articles, published in the Volume, shall vest in the owner of JDS, i.e. HPNLU, Shimla.
  4. The views adopted from other sources and others’ work must be quoted and sufficiently acknowledged.
  5. Paraphrasing another author’s work shall not be considered as original work. The source has to be acknowledged.
  6. The Contributor has to cover the risk of being sued for copyright, defamation or contempt and shall be liable to suffer the losses if caused by violating copyright.
