G.A. Thakker Endowment at MNLU Mumbai
Among many initiatives of Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai, one is the G.A. Thakkar endowment instituted by Shri. Nitin G. Thakkar, Senior Advocate Bombay High Court, in the memory of his father Late G.A. Thakker, a former judge and former Senior Advocate of
Bombay High Court. It was created primarily for holding annual Moot Court Competition in Commercial Laws at the University in memory of Shri G.A. Thakker. In due course, the lecture series (Shri G.A. Thakker Memorial Lecture series) was started with Hon’ble Mr. Justice B.N.
Srikrishna (Former Judge, Supreme Court of India) being the first one to take the lecture on the theme of ‘Commercial Law – Contemporary Issues and Challenges’ and Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Sujata Manohar unveiling the portrait of Shri. G.A. Thakker during the same. National Conference on ‘Emerging Trends in Corporate Law’ was conducted on 14th January 2022 with Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ambadas Joshi as the Chief Guest of the programme. Second lecture was conducted in 2021 on the theme of ‘The Role of Corporate Governance in Addressing Climate Risk’, with Prof. (Dr.) Umakanth Varotill (Professor, Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore) as the resource person. The lecture series seeks to promote the relevant and timely discussion of broad range of issues relating to the intersection of Commercial Laws. The upcoming session i.e. 3rd Justice G.A. Thakker Memorial Lecture will be hosted on 24.06.2023 with Hon’ble Shri Justice Dipak Misra as the keynote speaker.
