ABOUT INTERNATIONAL FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (FDP)

The Centre for Continuing Legal Education at School of Law, Bennett University, Greater Noida is organizing an International Faculty Development Programme (FDP) from 29th May, 2023 – 3rd June, 2023 on the theme: “Outcome Based Education: Changing Dimensions of Law Teaching and Research” wherein renowned academicians from National and International Universities of repute will provide training and deliver expert talks on various topics related to the theme. The main focus of the FDP is to support participants in their efforts to promote student learning and success through outcome based education and to ensure that learners receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for the challenges they will face in their careers.

The traditional gurukul approach to education prevalent in ancient India was based on imparting knowledge and skills to students not only through theoretical and rote learning methods, where students lived with their teacher (guru) and receive education in various subjects, as well as life skills and values. The focus of gurukul education is on character building, moral values, and holistic development. Later on, we have seen shift from gurukul traditional, mentor-based education to theoretical learning leading to a more systematic and structured approach to education.

It has also made education more accessible to a larger number of people. However, in recent times, there has been a shift towards outcome-based education, which focuses on the end results or outcomes that students should achieve after completing their education. This concept has gained traction in many fields, including law. Law as a field is constantly evolving, and the legal landscape is rapidly changing. With the increasing complexity of laws and legal systems, it is important that law students and researchers are acquainted with the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve success in a quickly transforming world.

Aim and Objectives of the Programme:

The main aim of outcome-based education in law is to ensure that students and researchers can apply their knowledge and skills to legal issues. Outcome-based education also helps to bridge the gap between academia and practice, by ensuring that students and researchers are exposed to real-world legal problems and have the opportunity to apply their learning to these problems.

The outcome-based education in law majorly focusses on competency-based curriculum, assessment, collaborative learning, research-based learning etc. The curriculum is designed around specific competencies that students should achieve by the end of their education. This ensures that students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for the challenges they will face in their careers. Assessment is an important component of outcome-based education, and it helps to ensure that students are meeting the desired outcomes. Assessment should be regular, ongoing, and should be based on the specific competencies that students are expected to achieve. Collaborative learning is a key component of outcome-based education, and it encourages students to work together to achieve common goals. This helps to develop teamwork skills, which are essential for success in the legal profession. This helps to ensure that students are prepared for the challenges they will face in their life and are trained with the skills and knowledge essential to succeed in career.

Outcome-based education is a new and innovative approach to education, and it has the potential to transform the way that law is taught and researched. By focusing on the outcomes that students should achieve, outcome-based education ensures that students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for the challenges they will face in their careers.
