NALSAR Apply to Contribute to Annual Survey of State laws in India 2023

In order to understand how federalism works on the ground, NALSAR undertook a pilot project studying the legislative output of 16 Indian states in the year 2020. The Survey examined the legislations enacted and the ordinances promulgated in the survey year. It also looked at the other instruments issued by the states to execute their law and policy obligations. The Introduction to the volume examined the legislative activity of the 16 states together and marked out patterns and exceptions. Since the project was prompted by the need to understand federal practice, the barriers faced by the states in exercising their law-making powers were foregrounded. Going forward, the University intends to expand the scope of the Survey to include all states and union territories.
