The Indian Society of International Law (ISIL) proposes to hold its Ninth International Conference during 2-5 March 2023 at New Delhi. OBJECTIVE
International Law provides a framework to govern the peaceful coexistence of nations. The powerful countries have largely constructed the global order aftermath of the World War II. Such a global legal architecture primarily serves their interest and policies. There has been an increasing call for creating a new global order that is stable, inclusive, and beneficial to all which establishes greater respect and adherence to international law. The 75th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) represents a unique opportunity to pave the way for either revitalizing the existing international institutions or establishing new institutions to fill existing institutional gaps. Several proposals from States are in consideration before various international forums to promote foundation for greater cooperation on pressing global and regional challenges.
In view of ongoing geostrategic tensions as well as shifting global power relationships, a number of international legal issues which includes, climate change, exploitation of resources in the sea, global health law, equitable world order, national security and migration are clearly emerging and playing a more influential role in the changing global order. The need of the international community over the next decade is the enhancement of the respect to international rule of law in order to reinforce multilateralism and to further enhance global governance capabilities.
The proposed International Conference, therefore, aims to examine importance of international law in the changing global order and its evolution trajectory. It will be valuable to have different perspectives in the context of ‘Changing Global Order’ from leading scholars, practioners and legal advisors from all regions of the world. It will provide a greater opportunity to evaluate role of developing countries, particularly India in the formation of global norms in the context of the changing global order.
