ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

Sambalpur University, located in the Western Odisha, has come into being with effect from 1st January, 1967 by virtue of the Sambalpur Univer- sity Act that was passed in the Orissa Legislature on the 10th December 1966. The University has been actively engaged in disseminating advanced knowledge in the field of Management, Science, Technology, Humanities and Medicines. There are 25 Post Graduate Departments in the University that cater to the needs of higher Education and Research especially in the 10 districts of Western Odisha.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The profession of law has undergone a metamorphosis in recent years so that legal professionals are being increasingly expected to play a vital role in the areas of economic regulation, corporate governance, economic and political policy- making etc. Therefore, in need of providing excellence in modern legal education, the P. G. Department of Law in Sambalpur University started its journey in 1986. We provide master degree program in law and flexible modes of study to help students achieve their goal and we try to make them a competent faculty. I believe that in a short period of time we have become one of the leading providers of modern legal education for students aiming to practice law or soliciting himself in the profession of a Judge, Magistrate, Teacher or even employment with national and multi-national companies. One of our essential hallmarks of the P.G. Department of Law is the highly dedicated full-time faculty members, who are committed to provide quality teaching as well as engage in regular research projects, seminar and article writing. The well equipped computer laboratory allows students to establish themselves grow as competitive lawyers and enhance their skill of advocacy. We teach law not just as lawyers see it but from the eyeglasses of many other multidisciplinary approaches for best endurance. We heartily welcome academicians, researchers and students who would like to be part of this exciting environment.

OBJECT

When something becomes an usage, regulations might be needed but when something becomes a part of life, there is must definitely a need for laws. This is why cyber law, popularly known as IT law or law of Internet was brought into action. The Objective of Cyber Law is to be a safety net against online data predators. To prevent debit card or debit card fraud. Many people have switched to digital paying methods. Cyber Law tries to make sure that victims do not have to go through the additional agony of long procedures. The aim and objective of Cyber Law is to create more awareness about cyber legal issues and challenges.

The object of this seminar is to be a platform where experts, academicians, delegates, student scholars as well as people at large interact and exchange their ideas and knowledge pertaining to the emerging issues and challenges in the field of Cyber Law. The object is not only to find innovative answers but to ask important questions as well. We hope this seminar will throw new light on a subject that is both revolutionary and relevant.

THEME OF THE SEMINAR

We are already in our twilight zone of Information Technology, wherein cyber law as a discipline has been constantly evolving. In the recent past events and the pandemic have added different dimensions to it, like Metaverse, Non-Fungible Token, Block Chain, Crypto Currency, DeFi, Artificial Intelligence (AI), β€˜work from home (WFH), Online Meetings, Telemedicine, OTT, Web 3.0, Online Gaming, Smart Home, NFT, IoT, 5G services, etc. The way technologies are being replaced with new technologies, there are continuous cyber security breaches all over the world. Law cannot remain static; it has to move along with time. All the new innovations or improvements upon the existing technologies are posing new challenges to the legal fraternity.

We are already into 2023 and a few recent trends on Information Technology, having profound influence on our living conditions, are being delineated here to brood from legal perspective.

The Organizing Committee welcomes original thematic papers, case studies, surveys, project proposals, Action Plans, Best Practices, etc. relating to, but not limited to the following topics interfacing with law and legal frameworks:

β€’ Decentralised Financing (Defi), Cryptocurrency and Blockchain technology.

β€’ WEB 3.0: data ownership, data protection law challenges, new cyber risks and crimes, cyber law compliance issue, privacy, cyber security, jurisdiction.

β€’ Artificial Intelligence (AI): Challenges to data Protection and Privacy law

β€’ Internet Of Things (IoT): ccollaboration or integration with emerging tech like AI, IoT, Metaverse will bring forward a large chunk of Cyber Legal Aspects like Data Protection, Privacy, Cyber Security, Cyber Law Compliance, Jurisdiction, Digital Evidence, E-Authentication and Piracy, Cyber Crime Regulations, Attribution nexus and the like

β€’ Over The Top (OTT): Intellectual Property Rights protection in digital environment, privacy, piracy, etc.

β€’ Fifth Generation (5g) Technology: Privacy, New Cyber Security Breaches, New Cyber Crimes as also inter-operable Cyber Legal Aspects relating to merging tech like IoT etc.

β€’ Cyber Security, Cyber Crimes, Cyber Sovereignty, Telemedicine, issues emerging from online gaming etc.

CALL FOR PAPER

Seminar papers are invited from the scholars, researchers, practitioners, academicians, cyber professionals and students to submit based on the above theme or sub-themes. It is also proposed that the selected papers by the Committee will be published in a special volume after the seminar in the form of an editedbookwith ISBNNo.

GUIDELINES FOR SEMINAR PAPER

An abstract should contain 300 – 350 words with 5-6 keywords, accompanied by a brief profile of the author indicating his email ID, contact number and address.

Paper should not be of more than 7000 words. It must be typed in Times New Roman; Font Size 12; on an A4 size paper with 1” margin on all sides with 1.5 line spacing using MS Word. APA style of referencing and footnote should be followed.
