The annual governing body meeting of the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has elected a new executive committee. It announced that the Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU) vice-chancellor Vijender Kumar will be the next president of the Consortium of NLUs for Common Law Admission Test (CLAT 2024).
Prof Kumar had served as Convenor of CLAT 2021. He had previously held the post of Vice-Chancellor of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA), before which he was Registrar at NALSAR, Hyderabad. An expert in Family Law, he holds a PhD from MDU Rohtak and an LL.M. from Kurukshetra University.
Profile of Prof.(Dr.) Vijender Kumar:
Prof. (Dr.) Vijender Kumar is the Vice-Chancellor of Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur, Professor of Law, and Commonwealth Fellow, UK. He had served as the Vice-Chancellor of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam, and the Registrar of NALSAR, University of Law, Hyderabad. An astute academician and research scholar, he has published research articles in reputed law journals on ‘Hindu Law’ and has contributed several book reviews and research papers. He has also authored several books amongst which are, “Being a Law Teacher 2020”, “Law Relating to Domestic Violence 2007” and “Hindu Law of Adoption 2004”. He has also revised various books including “Hindu Law and Usage” by John D. Mayne (16th edition, 2009, 17th edition 2014, and 18th edition 2020) and “Family Law in India” by Professor G.C.V. Subba Rao, (8th edition, 2004, 9thedition 2007 and 10th edition 2011). Further, Prof. Kumar has several edited books to his credit on various contemporary titles.
Prof. Kumar has participated, presented papers, and chaired sessions at several National and International Conferences. He participated in the Law Teachers Programme on “Law Teaching and Legal Research Skills” at Cardiff Law School, (UK) in 2004. Prof. Kumar was awarded the ‘Academic Staff Commonwealth Fellowship 2009-2010’ and appointed ‘Visiting Professor’ at King’s College London, UK in 2009-10. He has been a visiting faculty at various NLUs and the National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT), Nagpur. He was awarded the ‘Telangana State Award to Meritorious Teacher-2019’ by the Government of Telangana. For many years now, he has been a member of the Board of Studies, Academic Planning and Monitoring Board, Academic Council, Executive Council, and General Council of many NLUs and other universities. He has also served as the Vice-President of the Consortium of National Law Universities for the year 2022-23.
