The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) was established by Act 27 of 2005 of the Kerala State Legislature. By the same Act, the National Institute for Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) established by the Bar Council of Kerala Trust in 2002 merged with the NUALS. In 2008, an amendment streamlined the powers and functions of the authorities of the University and ensured the active involvement of the Government of Kerala.The University is recognized by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) and section 12B of the UGC Act.It is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
The main objects of the University are: (a) to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal and judicial processes, professional legal education and their role in national development; (b) to develop in the student and research scholar a sense of responsibility to serve the society by developing skills with regard to advocacy, legal services, legislation, law reforms etc., and (c) to promote legal and judicial reforms needed to strengthen the administration of justice in India.
The Chief Justice of India subject to his consent is the Visitor and the Chief Justice of Kerala, the Chancellor of NUALS.
The NUALS Campus is situated in Kochi – the industrial capital of Kerala and the seat of the Kerala High Court – in a 10 acre in the Kinfra Hi-Tech Park at Kalamassery.
The NUALS campus provides adequate academic infrastructure – dedicated internet access, Wi-Fi Connectivity, on-line legal resources including Hein online, Westlaw India and Manupatra, a computer lab, besides a good collection of standard books and reports, both foreign and Indian.

The Editorial Board of the NUALS Health Law Journal (NHLJ) is inviting submissions for its first edition. The journal is being published by The Centre for Health Law and Policy at the National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi. It is a multidisciplinary, double-blind, peer reviewed journal. The Centre is interdisciplinary in approach and aims to encourage, promote and support innovative and important scholarship including teaching, research, consultancy and advocacy in areas of health care law.
We welcome submissions, on any topic of health care law that has contemporary relevance, from UG, PG, PhD Scholars and Academicians with backgrounds in law, medical sciences, psychology and other allied disciplines. All submissions will go through a rigorous review process and possible editing by the Editorial Board.
We accept submissions under the following categories:
- Articles of length 5000 to 10000 words (exclusive of footnotes; however, speaking footnotes must be limited to 50 words); articles exceeding the word limit may be considered on merit.
- Short Notes (between 1500 and 5000 words)
- Case Comments (minimum of 1500 words)
- Longer submissions may be considered on the basis of their quality.
Submission Guidelines
- Submissions are to be made only in electronic form and must be made via a Google form for Submission Click HERE
- The final date for submission is March 1st, 2022.
- All submissions are to contain an abstract, of not more than 250 words, accompanying the article. Please refrain from sending abstracts in a separate word doc.
- By submitting an article, the author undertakes that the article is an original work and has not been submitted, accepted or published elsewhere.
- Plagiarism over 15% will result in summary rejection of the submission.
- Co-authorship is allowed for a maximum of two authors.
Formatting Guidelines
- All submissions must follow the Bluebook (20th Edition) style of citation; non-conformity will be a ground for rejection.
- Submissions must be in Times New Roman font, with size 12 and line spacing 1.5.
- All footnotes must be in Times New Roman font, with size 10 and line spacing 1.
- Submissions must be made in .doc/.docx formats only.
- The documents must not contain any identification markers. For e.g., the name of the author after the title, or any other metadata on Word.
