About IDIA

Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education (IDIA) is a nationwide charitable trust founded by Late Prof. (Dr.) Shamnad Basheer in 2010. The main goal of the movement is to empower underprivileged students and help them transform into leading lawyers and community advocates by giving them access to quality legal education.
IDIA sensitizes underprivileged students from across the country to law as a career option, trains them and provides scholarships to the students on gaining admission to law schools.

About the Competition

To pay homage to revered Prof. (Dr.) Basheer and to remember his noble vision, IDIA Punjab Chapter organizes an Essay Writing Competition to contribute to the training of the underprivileged children and taking them a step closer to manifesting their dreams.

Eligibility

The competition will be open to all Indian students pursuing any undergraduate/postgraduate degree. The event is not restricted only to law students.

  1. Constitutional Validity of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019
  2. The South China Sea dispute
  3. International Law Perspective on the India-China-Pakistan tussle
  4. LGBTQIA Rights and Their Progression in the Indian Society
  5. Abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution of India
  6. Patent battle for Licensing of the Covid-19 vaccine
  7. Constitutional Analysis of the Ayodhya Verdict
  8. Contempt of Court: Prashant Bhushan Controversy

Deadlines

The last date for the registration is September 19th.
The last date for the submission is September 29th.

Submission Guidelines

  1. Word limit: 1500-2500 words (excluding footnotes).
  2. Individual attachments: Name; contact details; current academic status (Year, University etc.); undertaking as to guarantee of originality.
  3. The file name must consist only the name(s) of the Author(s).
  4. Citation- Uniform style of citation should be followed throughout the essay.
  5. Plagiarized content should not be submitted.

Formatting Guidelines

  1. Font and size for the essay: Times New Roman | 12
  2. Font and size for footnotes: Times New Roman | 10
  3.   Line spacing: 1.5
  4.  Margins- Left 1.5 Inch and Right 1.0 Inch, Top 1 Inch and bottom 1 inch.

Registration Fee

Registration fee for single author : Rs. 100/-
Registration fee for co-authors : Rs. 150/-
Co-authorship upto two authors is permitted.
