An addition to the NLUs in Uttar Pradesh with the advent of 25 Acre Campus in Prayagraj

The State of Uttar Pradesh has numerous plans of establishing a second national law university (NLU) in the state alongside RMLNLU in the city of Lucknow. This National Law University is said to possess a campus of 25 acres of land in Prayagraj. Prayagraj was formerly Allahabad. Even today, colloquially, it is still referred to as Allahabad most of the times.

This proposal has been put forth by the state’s justice ministry.The ministry has supposedly instituted “a system of research on the ancient scriptures and the ancient judicial system of India” in the NLU, according to the Herald Publicist.

The Chief Justice of India (CJI) is proposed to be its chancellor, stated the report. At this point of time, a lot of information is not available with regards to this.

Maharashtra, of course, had planned three NLUs and currently has three NLUs, in Aurangabd, Nagpur and Mumbai.

Madhya Pradesh got its second NLU besides venerable NLIU Bhopal in 2018 along with NLU Jabalpur.

Uttar Pradesh is the most populated State of India. To one, it won’t come off as a shock that it’s going this way. But one question still prevails: with existing NLUs barely acquiring requisite funds and love from state governments (let alone in the centre), is an addition to the prevalent NLU’s really the need of the hour?
