The hearing in the Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid case in the Supreme Court has been adjourned to March 14. The matter was heard by a Bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misraand Justices Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer.
The Bench took up various applications seeking condonation of delay, and gave permission to file additional documents etc.
Senior Advocate Rajeev Dhavan, appearing for Sunni Waqf Board, sought for a day-to-day hearing in the case, but the Bench did not consider the same favourably.
The hearing of the matter back in December last year was abound with controversy, with the Supreme Court taking a dim view of the conduct of Senior Advocates Rajeev Dhavan, Dushyant Dave and Kapil Sibal, whose very appearance in the matter raised a few eyebrows.
Chief Justice Misra said, “Unfortunately, a small group of Senior Counsel think they can raise their voices. But they must understand that raising voices will not be tolerated. Raising voices only shows their inadequacy, incompetence and that they are not fit to be Seniors”.
The chief justice said that the court would treat the case as a land dispute only.
The disputed plot has been divided among the Sunni Waqf Board, a Hindu organisation called the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla or Infant Rama, which is represented by the Hindu Mahasabha for the construction of the Ram temple.
These comments would prompt Rajeev Dhavan to announce his retirement from court practice, only to later make an exception for the Ayodhya dispute in the Supreme Court.
