ABOUT THE SEMINAR:
The Faculty of Law, University of Lucknow is a premier institution in India. The faculty is in pursuit of academic excellence purposes to organize a National Seminar on “GOODS AND SERVICES TAX IN INDIA” in Faculty of Law, University of Lucknow on 7th November 2017. India is a federal state by the Constitution and therefore it was having different taxation system throughout its territory including sales tax, VAT etc and even the taxation rate varied between states. It was very difficult for the businessman and big corporate houses to carry on business in the existing taxation system. Developed and even developing countries of the world are having single taxation system throughout the territory. Need arose in India for having single taxation system to invite new investors and big corporate houses. GST was a step by government in this way. Economists believe that GDP of India will rose upto 1 percent after the enforcement of GST. We hope that the outcome of seminar will help the people in understanding the impacts of GST and the benefits of GST that were intended by the legislature while framing the law.
