Police at the gates, as NUSRL Ranchi students on strike: Lack of Permanent VC, faculty & more, allege fund misappropriation

National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL) is a law university located in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. It was established by a legislative act, by the State Of Jharkhand (act no. 4 of 2010) as the fourteenth national law university of India. The 63.76-acre site is among the largest national law universities in India.NUSRL Ranchi, is in a virtual lockdown as students closed the main gate of the varsity from Wednesday to protest against alleged anomalies and misappropriation of funds.

Students, are sleeping on the road just outside the main entrance since last three days, are demanding immediate removal of vice-chancellor, registrar and a complete overhaul of the administration which they say is incompetent. The Students of National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi have come forth in solidarity and resumed the peaceful protest which was previously halted on 13th April 2017. Previously, the protest started on 10th April 2017 and was finally halted on 13th April 2017, by signing the minutes of the meeting, herein after referred to as ā€˜the minutes of the meetingā€™ . However, it is very disheartening that the assurances given therein, proved to be a dead letter despite being documented and signed by various authorities. The assurances are not new for the students and such blank assurances have been provided to us by the University Administration, State Administration and the Jharkhand High Court, since the very inception of the University on various occasions. They feel abandoned by there founders ā€˜The State of Jharkhandā€™ due to their ignorance towards the affairs of NUSRL, Ranchi. Thus, it is only under extreme duress that we have sought the sanctum of the Honā€™ble Chief Justice and Honā€™ble Chief Minister and have also resorted to a silent and peaceful protest against the continuing red-tapism in the University administration.

The senior officials of the university did try hot and cold blows to dismantle protesting students, including a wee-hour show-cause notice to at least five senior students asking them why they shouldnā€™t be rusticated from University during current semester for acts of ā€œindiscipline by resorting to leaving classes and sitting on Dharna in the University campus, inciting students particularly of the first year to leave classes and obstruct functioning of the university. According to the university notice, the agitating students are part of a group of students who donā€™t want strict rule of attendance and discipline to be enforced in the University. Students are demanding the issues to be discussed only with the CM and Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court, who is also NUSRL’s chancellor.
