1. Description:
In collaboration with the National Law University, Delhi (NLUD), and the West Bengal University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), the ICC International Court of Arbitration, this year is organizing the 5th Indian Vis Pre-Moot to help teams prepare for the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court Competition.
The competition provides an opportunity to the teams to practice their arguments in front of experts in the field. All the judges that take part in the competition have been participants at previous editions of the Willem C Vis Moot Court Competition or are established practitioners in the field of international commercial arbitration. The participants of previous editions of the Indian Vis Pre-Moot have performed exceedingly well in the actual competition.
The Pre-Moot is open to teams from across the world. The 5th Indian Vis Pre-Moot will be held from 5th to 8th March 2015 at National Law University, Delhi, India.
The 2014-2015 Problem
This year’s moot problem is based on the ICC Rules of Arbitration (in force as of 1 January 2012) and encompasses, among others, issues concerning joinder of additional parties and Emergency Arbitrator provisions under the ICC Rules.
Therefore, this year’s Indian Vis Pre-Moot will provide the teams with an unparalleled opportunity to try their arguments on cutting-edge provisions of the ICC Rules before members of the ICC Secretariat and arbitrators with experience in ICC arbitrations.
In addition, the 5th Indian Vis Pre-Moot will enable teams to:
1. measure up against and interact with other students from several countries and legal systems;
2. have a strategic advantage by practicing their oral submissions before Indian Universities, which is one of the largest contingent at the Vis Moot.
3. receive comments from and socialize with arbitrators from different professional, cultural and legal backgrounds;
4. practice and improve their advocacy skills; and
5. refine and adjust their oral arguments just before making the trip to Hong Kong and/ or Vienna.
2. Programme:
The 5th Indian Vis Pre-Moot will consist of oral hearing rounds on Saturday 7 March and Sunday 8 March 2015 as well as several social events.
Teams will be paired against other teams before a variety of panels in 1.5-hour rounds (1 hour of pleadings, 5 minutes of deliberation, 15 minutes of feedback, and a 10-minute break where coffee and tea will be offered to all participants). Experienced arbitrators from the legal community around the world will provide students with comprehensive and constructive feedback after each hearing.
A detailed programme for the 5th Indian Vis Pre-Moot with all relevant information will be sent to the selected teams in the beginning of 2015.
