Supreme Court curbs BCCI's financial powers

The bench led by Chief Justice of India T S Thakur has now put shackles on Cricket Board’s financial powers. The court ordered that the Board can no longer enter into contracts and issue tenders without prior approval of the Lodha Committee.
The court has also initiated an inquiry to know if the President of BCCI i.e. Anurag Thakur has asked for a letter from Chairperson of ICC i.e. Shashank Manohar to state that appointment of nominee of Comptroller and Auditor General and intervention by Lodha Panel will amount to government intervention.
About the conditions put on financial matters the bench observed that the Lodha Committee will also appoint an independent auditor to study books of accounts and financial transactions of BCCI. The bench also authorized the Lodha Panel to fix a cap on contracts and BCCI need to compulsorily take permission from the panel if they award a contract exceeding that limit.
The bench directed Anurag Thakur and BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke to submit to the court a statement on affidavit indicating the recommendations followed by BCCI of that of committeeand the steps taken to comply with remaining recommendations.
The affidavid of compliance is required to be filed on or  before December 3 and December 5 has been fixed as next date of hearing.
