The Smt. Shakuntala Devi 1st International Moot Court Competition, 2024, held from April 27 to 29, 2024, witnessed participation from 22 teams. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Justice Indira Banerjee (Former Judge, Supreme Court of India), Justice D.S. Dhaliwaal (Former Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court), and Justice J.R. The Moot Proposition

The moot proposition revolves around the conflict between freedom of speech, cyber regulations, and international human rights obligations within the framework of constitutional law, cyber law, and international law. It examines the constitutional validity of a cybersecurity law that mandates strict regulation of digital content, particularly content that may affect national sovereignty, public order, and security. The case raises crucial questions about the extent of state control over social media platforms and whether such regulations infringe upon the fundamental right to free speech. It delves into obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), specifically regarding digital censorship and the right to expression.

Eligibility

The competition is open to undergraduate law students pursuing a 3-year or 5-year LL.B. program from a recognised college/university/institution in India.
