SC issued another contempt notice against Justice Karnan

Sitting Calcutta High Court Judge Justice CS Karnan against whom contempt proceedings has been leveled by Constitutional Bench, to hear him Supreme Court ordered for a personal appearance of judge today.
However neither him nor his lawyer appeared before the court today. Mukul Rohtagi assisting the court said the bench to frame a charge and asked Karnan to respond to them on the next date of hearing. Venugopal appearing on behalf of Madras HC judges told the Supreme Court that Madras high court judges need protection from Justice Karnan’s verbal abuse and wild charges.
“We are not aware of the reasons for his non-appearance. We, therefore, refrain from proceeding with the matter,” it said. The apex court has given Karnan until March 10 to respond to the contempt notice.
Contempt Proceedings were initiated as he continuously levelled allegations against the Madras high court chief justice and other judges by made a letter to various authorities.
