The new law which has been passed on Monday by Tamil Nadu state assembly has been now challenged by Animal Welfare Board of India by asserting that Jalliakttu should be banned and the Supreme Court’s 2014 verdict should be followed as the sport was a torture to the bulls and was dangerous to the people participating as well.
Board also asserted before the bench that the court not to permit the centre to withdraw the notification on Jallikattu. The centre had told the SC on Tuesday that it was withdrawing the notification as a bill had been passed by TN. The board said that the centre made the submission with the intention of making the petition infructuous.
Now, this Matter along with Centre’s plea for withdrawal of notification has been listed on Monday 30 January.
