NDTV moves SC against one-day ban

Today, NDTV approach Supreme Court against one day ban i.e on November 9 of its Hindi channelĀ for its coverage of the Pathankot terror attackĀ saying such a ban is ” illegal and unconstitutional ” andĀ refuted the allegations and pointed out that other channels and newspapers reported the same information.
Union information and broadcasting ministry said that the coverage shown by NDTV violated the broadcasting norms.” It said that the channel gave out sensitive information that could have been used by the handlers of the terrorists involved in the attack”
In June 2015, theĀ information and broadcasting ministry had introduced a new clause in the programme code that said broadcasters were prohibited from “live coverage of any anti-terrorist operation by security forces, wherein media coverage shall be restricted to periodic briefing by an officer designated by the appropriate government till such operation concludes”.
The channel said “The ban has been widely condemned by journalists and editors with all press councils drawing parallels to the Emergency of the 1970s when basic constitutional rights including the freedom of the press were blatantly violated.”
