MEMBERSHIP BYE-LAWS

  1. Short Title and Interpretation

These Bye-laws shall be called “Membership Bye-Laws” and shall come into force from March 14, 2018. The words and expressions used in these bye-laws have the same meaning as in the Rules and Regulations of Law Mantra Trust.

  1. Membership

There shall be the following classes of members  

  1. (a)  Donor Member;  
  2. (b)  Honorary Members;
  3. (c) Life Time Members;
  4. (c) Corporate Member;
  5. (d)  General Member.

(a) Donor Member;

Any person who takes an active interest and part in furtherance of the objectives of the Trust and offers himself for enrolment as a Donor Member of the Trust, and undertakes to comply with the rules and regulation of the Trust and agrees to donate a sum of Rs. 60,000/- (Sixty thousand only) either in cash or in kind  to the Trust, may be enrolled as a Donor Member of the Trust by the Governing Body in accordance with the rules and regulation and such member shall continue as a General Body Member of the Trust till their life time.

(b) Honorary Members;

  1. A person may be invited to become an Honorary Member, if in the opinion of the Governing Body, he is a fit and proper person for conferment of the honour, having regard to his meritorious contribution to the science of law or the growth or reform of law or administration of justice;
  2. the approval of the Managing Trustee must be obtained by the Governing Body for consideration of the proposal to enroll him as such; and
  • the proposal must receive the support of not less than two-thirds of the total number of members of the Governing Body.

As approved by the Governing Body :

“The Committee suggested that as a matter of convention the Managing Trustee and President of the Law Mantra be invited to become honorary members of the Law Mantra after they demit the offices.”

(c) Life Membership:

Bye-law 2(c) : “Persons of [high status] in the field of law may in the discretion of the Membership Committee be enrolled as Life Members

The Governing Council had approved the following guidelines under the Bye-Law:

  1. a senior Advocate or an Advocate with an active practice of minimum 20 years in any High Court or Supreme Court;
  2. a sitting or retired judge of the High Court or Supreme Court;
  3. a Professor of Law or teacher of law with a teaching experience of more than 2 years in a Law College or University or Research Institute;
  4. Any other distinguished person.

(d) Corporate Members

The following may apply for enrolments as Corporate Members of the Institute:

  1. Any Bar Association or Association of Advocates by whatever name called;
  2. Any registered society devoted to the study of Law;
  3. Any statutory university;
  4. The Association of Indian Universities;
  5. Any Institution, Society, Body Corporate or Government Department or association of persons interested in the study, practice or administration of any branch of law.

(e) General Members

Bye-law 2(e) as approved by the Governing Council, the following Indian citizens may be enrolled as ordinary members of the Institute:

  1. (i)  An advocate having active practice of 1 years or more, in any court in India;
  2. (ii)  Persons who are or have been members of the judicial services;
  3. (iii)  Persons who are or have been teaching in a Faculty of Law, a deemed University, a Department of a University or any other Law School/College recognized for the award of degree of bachelor of laws.
  4. (iv) Student Pursuing there B.A LL.B, LL.B, LL.M,PHD,M.PHIL, RESEARCH SCHOLAR.
  5. Any other person of repute who has made significant contribution in the field of law and/or social sciences in the form of articles published in the renowned legal journals or having published sufficient number of books.

[Note: Certificate of Experience from Bar Association or Advocate General for Lawyers; and from Dean/Head of Law Departments for teachers to be submitted along with the application in the prescribed form .

  1. Procedure for Enrolment
    1. (a)  Persons or Associations, as the case may be, who desire to be enrolled as:
      1. Donor Member;
      2. Honorary Members;
      3. Life Time Members;
      4. Corporate Member;
      5. General Member.

shall apply to the LAW MANTRA giving the particulars on a form prescribed by the President.

  1. (b)  Enrolment as a member shall be intimated to the person concerned.
  1. Fees and Subscriptions

The prescribed fee under each category shall be payable in advance along with application form.

(a) The fees and subscriptions payable by various categories of members shall be at the rates specified below:

  1. (i) Donor Member. Rs 60,000 (One Time
  2. (ii) Life Members. Rs. 12,000/- (One Time)
  3. (iii)  Corporate Members Rs. 15,000 (P.A.)
  4. (iv) General Member Rs 5, 500 (At the time of admission as member) and Subscription charge will be 500 P.A.

Provided that payment of a consolidated sum of Rupees 15,000 (fifteen Thousand Only) may be made in which event there shall be no liability to pay any subscription.

  1. (v)  No subscription shall be payable by the following classes of members: Honorary Members;

(vi)  Subscriptions are payable in advance for each calendar year irrespective of the date of enrolment of a member. Subscriptions shall be paid before of 1st March of the relevant year. In the event of default and if subscription remains unpaid for a period of three months from the due date, the member would not be entitled to any facilities or benefits of the Institute and his name would be struck off from the membership register

(vi)  All members whose subscriptions are in arrears for two years shall automatically cease to be members.

(vii)  If a member does not pay his subscription by the in any year and his subscription remains unpaid thereafter, he shall not be entitled to any discount on the Journal and other publications of the Law Mantra.

  1. Relaxation of criteria: Prescribed eligibility criteria for registration of membership may be relaxed by the General Body, in its discretion in suitable cases, particularly in view of the outstanding contribution of the member in academic, professional or any other field.
  2. Removal from membership: The name of any member of the Law Mantra may be removed from its rolls, by the Governing Council on the recommendations of the Membership Committee, for conduct unbecoming of a member of the Law Mantra or for any other valid reason but after giving him notice to show cause why such action be not taken against him.
  3. General/ Benefits of Membership

Donor Member;

  • Member shall continue as a General Body Member of the Trust till their life time.
  • Name will be Placed in Print and Online Journal;
  • Free Soft Copy Journal of Online and Print Volume;
  • Legal Updates by Law Mantra Team;
  • Felicitation of Member in Law Mantra Events;
  • Free Passes in all Law Mantra Events.

Honorary Members;

  • Name will be Placed in Print and Online Journal;
  • Free Soft Copy Journal of Online and Print Volume;
  • Legal Updates by Law Mantra Team;
  • Felicitation of Member in Law Mantra Events;

Life Time Members;

  • Membership in Editorial Board of Online Journal and Print Journal;
  • Free Publication in Law Mantra Online Journal (Life time Member can Contribute 7 Articles in a Year in Law Mantra Online Journal.
  • Free Publication of Article in Print Journal. (Member Can Contribute Two article in a year in Print Journal & Member will get hard copy of that journal at discount of 60 Percent.)
  • Members shall be entitled to purchase the Journal and other publications of the Law Mantra at such discount as may from time to time be fixed by the Executive Committee.
  • Name will be Placed in Print and Online Journal;
  • Free Soft Copy Journal of Online and Print Journal Volume;
  • Legal Updates by Law Mantra Team;
  • Felicitation of Member in Law Mantra Events;
  • Discount of 25 Percent in registration fee in all Law Mantra Events.

Corporate Member;

  • Advertisement of Corporate Member Institute free of Cost in Print Journal, Online Journal and all events of Law Mantra;
  • Logo will be placed on website of Law Mantra;
  • Members shall be entitled to purchase the Journal and other publications of the Law Mantra at such discount as may from time to time be fixed by the Governing Body;
  • Free Space of Advertisement in all Law Mantra Events.
  • Felicitation of Institution in Law Mantra Events.

 General Member;

  • Membership in Editorial Board of Online Journal and Print Journal;
  • Free Publication in Law Mantra Online Journal (Life time Member can Contribute 4 Articles in a Year in Law Mantra Online Journal).
  • Free Publication of Article in Print Journal. (Member Can Contribute One article in a year in Print Journal & Member will get hard copy of that journal at discount of 40 Percent.)
  • Members shall be entitled to purchase the Journal and other publications of the Law Mantra at such discount as may from time to time be fixed by the Executive Committee.
  • Name will be Placed in Online Journal;
  • Free Soft Copy Journal of Online and Print Journal Volume;
  • Legal Updates by Law Mantra Team;
  • Discount of 20 Percent in registration fee in all Law Mantra Events.
  1. Amendment

Governing Body shall amended the BYE-LAWS of Membership of Law Mantra by a special resolution which must be passed in 2/3 rd Majority of Governing Body.
