Following is the sequence of the ongoing controversy related to Lalit Modi:
- In September 2013, Mr. Lalit Modi was banned for life from BCCI.
- The controversy began when Mr. Lalit Modi, former IPL commissioner revealed in an interview that Vasundhara Raje, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, gave a ‘Witness statement’ in 2011 to facilitate his immigration to Britain after facing charges of money laundering and misappropriation of funds in India.
- He later revealed that he had a family-like relation with Union Minister Sushma Swaraj whose husband and daughter, as told by Modi, provided him free legal services.
- An RTI was filed questioning Ministry of External Affairs related which also involved a question as to why did the govt. not appeal before Supreme Court against order by High Court which restored his passport. The External Affairs Ministry replied that they were not under any obligation to answer such questions. This has been criticized by both Congress and AAP.
- A few days back, a three-member team of Enforcement Directorate (ED) undertook Modi’s case in Singapore to investigate into the matter involving Rs. 425 Crore.
