The accusation was made by one Poonam Devi against her sister-in-laws who are the appellants in the given appeal under Section 498-A and Section 323 of the IPC.
The facts of the case are:
Poonam Devi complained that since her marriage, her sister-in-laws have been torturing her wanting for more dowry and treated her badly. Her husband did not take a stand and thus to save herself from the torture, she filed the complaint.
Argument by Appellant:
The appellants counsel focused on the fact that they were married and had already served and undergone a sentence of 5 months which was more that enough for the offence they have committed. Having a family behind and children, their punishment should be reduced.
Judgement:
The court directed reduction of the punishment of the appellants to the already served keeping in mind and basing their judgement on the marital status of the two. They were ordered to be released by the Supreme Court.
