Bulandshahr Rape case : Allahbad HC takes Suo Moto cognizance

Allahabad High Court has asked the state government of Uttar Pradesh if they object to handing out the case to CBI for further investigation of the Bulandshahr gang-rape case.
An NGO, ‘We the People’ filed a PIL in the Lucknow bench of the High Court on August 2 which professed the State Government of UP to be inefficient in investigation. An affidavit was filed along with by the petitioner giving details. More details of the alleged irregularities are asked from the petitioner by the court. The next hearing is on August 22. The HC asked the UP government to reply to the PIL within a week. This PIL mainly seeks CBI probe into the gangrape case as it is believed to increase efficiency and speedy justice to the victims.
The court took a suo moto cognizance, also wanted to know if some relevant steps were taken by the state to ensure safety on highways. It is believed by the court that the toll paying public has the right to be protected by the government and there must be police forces at regular intervals on the highways. A status report of the ongoing investigation in the gang-rape case is also asked by the High Court from the State government.
UP’s additional advocate, Bulbul Godhiyal said that the State Government has no problem in handing over the probe to CBI but mere lack of confidence in the state’s police is insufficient reason to do so.
The unfortunate gang-rape of a woman (45) and her minor (14) took place at NH-91 when the family was travelling to Shahjahanpur.
The mastermind Saleem Bawariya along with his fellow mates Pervez and Zubair were arrested by the inspector General of Meerut on Monday night. All the three people are from Kannauj.
More than ten teams were formed which were raiding several places searching for the criminals. The State Police and the Special task Force (STF) launched a massive manhunt and raided several places at Moradabad, Rajasthan and Haryana.
There is a national outrage against the case and the state government is looked upon for speedy investigations and actions.
