Aadhar cannot be made mandatory for benefits of social welfare schemes

Petitions has been filed for challenging the Aadhaar to be mandatory made by the government and its agencies for extending benefits of social welfare schemes.
Three Judge bench headed by CJI J.S. Khehar said that government and its agencies cannot make the Aadhaar card mandatory to extend the benefits of its welfare schemes however, they cannot be stopped from seeking Aadhaar cards for non-welfare schemes like opening of bank accounts.
Bench also expressed the opinion that soon they will constitute Seven bench to hear the batch of petition’s challenging Aadhaar scheme on grounds including that it infringes on the Right to Privacy of citizens.
In the year of 2015, apex court said that Aadhar cannot be mandatory for availing benefits of government’s welfare schemes and barred the authorities from sharing personal biometric data collected for enrolment under the scheme, plea was taken by petitioner instead of 2015 orders govt. is making such rules & regulations.
