The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India is set to invite applications from female advocates and staff members for a crèche facility for their children. This was done after the promise of Chief Justice H L Dattu in January, 2015, to the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) to introduce day care center and provide crèche facilities to support the female advocates while they work.
The SCBA circular had stated they have been assured of three rooms to be converted into a crèche, which will start functioning from 1st July, 2015 onward. The monthly fee for each child will be Rs. 5,000.
Advocate Meera Bhatia, who had filed a writ petition for the same a few years back told The Hindustan Times, “Now that SC has finally decided to set up crèche, all High Courts across the country should follow the suit.”
The Supreme Court clarified “The child shall have to be dropped and picked up from the crèche by the parents. He/she must bring along food, milk, feeders, biscuits, fruit, medicines, diapers, and spare pair of clothes to the crèche, which would only provide the facility to heat the food item”.
