Maharastra's Prohibition of Obscene Dance Act has been challenged and listed on 2 March

Maharashtra Prohibition of Obscene Dance in Hotels, Restaurants and Bar Rooms and Protection of Dignity of Women (Working therein) Act, 2016 has been challenged before Supreme Court.
Earlier, this was challenged by Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association (IHRA) and is pending before the court challenging the constitutional validity of certain provisions of the Act. The fresh plea, filed by ‘Bharatiya Bargirls Union’, has termed the new Act as arbitrary and violative of their right to earn a livelihood through legitimate means, now court has clubbed both Petitions and agreed to hear them.
It alleged that the term ‘obscene dance’ in the Act has been deliberately kept vague to allow police to harass women performers and new law violative of their profession and unreasonably interfered with free choice of expression through dramatic performances.
Matter has been listed before the bench on 2 March.
