Review Petition in Soumya's Case

On 15 September, 2016 accused, Govindachami was acquitted by Supreme Court of Murder Charge and Awards LIFE TERM For Rape. SC Altered the Conviction and Sentence awarded to the accused under Section 302 IPC to one under 325 IPC, for that he was sentenced for seven years in jail. He was sentenced to Death by Trial Court which was confirmed by High Court.
Today, Mrs. Sumathy, Soumya’s Mother approached the Supreme Court by filing a review petition.
In the Petition, Petitioner Contended that there is enough evidence to prove that Soumya was murdered by convict Govindachamy and pleads to the court to hear her argument also during the trial.
The government had also informed that it would file a review petition against the SC order. It would point out the legal and factual errors in the order to the apex court.
Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi will be representing the government in the court.
Law Minister A K Balan also had stressed that the government’s aim would be to ensure that Govindachami gets capital punishment after the murder charge against him was proved.
