High Court allows women to enter sanctum sanctorum of the Haji Ali Dargah

The Bomaby High Court on a landmark verdict ruled, ” Women be permitted to enter the sanctum sanctorum of the Haji Ali Dargah at par with men”.
However, the Division Bench of Justices V.M.Kanade and Revati Mohitedere has granted six- week stay to the order on the request by Haji Ali Dargah Trust to enable it to go to Supreme Court for appeal.
It was a Public Interest Litigation filed by co-founders of Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan, Dr. Noorjehan Safia and Zakia Soman.
The Division Bench held that the ban violated Article 14, 15 and 25 of the Constitution. the Bench also held that the trust is always at liberty to take steps to prevent sexual harassment of women by having separate queues for men and women.
